Congenital ptosis is the term used for cases where the eyelid has been drooping since birth. Vision is not fully developed at birth and continues to develop. If the eyelid completely covers the pupil at this stage, vision development may be impaired. Because the visual axis is blocked, surgery may be performed early, within the first six months, to prevent the development of amblyopia.

If the pupil is not fully covered and the visual axis is not fully closed, we generally recommend surgery during the preschool period, between the ages of 4 and 6. After the age of 3, a child's perception of their environment increases and they are influenced by their surroundings. If increased external stimuli, such as criticism from friends or comments from relatives and friends about the drooping eyelid, begin to bother the child, surgery can be planned after the age of 3.5. If the child's social environment and self-confidence are good, surgery can be performed around the age of 6, which is preschool. It's important to understand that the age of surgery varies depending on the individual patient, and even in two identical cases, the psychological state of the patient can influence the age of surgery.
